Equine Program Manager

Equine Program Coordinator Reports to: Recreation Manager Department: Recreation

Status: Full Time

Scope & General Purpose: This position is responsible for ensuring equine activities are conducted in an exceptionally safe and friendly manner and operating facilities are commensurate with the standards of a world class resort.


Essential Duties

  • Create, organize, schedule and promote equine activities that will engage guests with our resort
  • Ensure that reservation requests are handled promptly and courteously
  • Ensure that all equine activity staff are appropriately dressed and groomed
  • Ensure that all equine activity areas are clean and tidy at all times, including restroom areas
  • Carry out systematic checks of all facilities and equipment for maintenance requirements, repairs or refurbishing
  • Hold regular performance appraisals with staff, identifying areas for development and training and ensuring that training is effected to agreed standards
  • Ensure that staffing levels are correct and that the most suitably qualified person is appointed in the event of a vacancy
  • Ensure that an adequate number of appropriately trained horses are available for business levels
  • Manage expenses within budgeted limits
  • Maintain inventory security and proper equipment/feed storage
  • Ensure safety of guests and colleagues at all times
  • Exercise and train program horses to provide safe and worry free rides and activities in a variety of conditions and locations and with riders of varying skill levels
  • Train wranglers to provide safe, informative and entertaining trail rides and team activities
  • Oversee care of all program horses, maintain health and behavior documentation on all program horses
  • Provide riding lessons, tours, rides and activities as needed Liaise with other sporting club personnel to ensure exceptional activity experiences for guests
  • Submit accurate reports, invoices and purchasing records in a timely manner
  • Perform daily administrative tasks Marginal Duties
  • Attend leadership and department meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned


Physical Requirements

Essential duties require long periods of standing, walking and riding as well as lifting and carrying tack and feed (in excess of 50 lbs). The employee must have normal vision (corrected) including close and color vision, hearing and verbal communication. Environmental Conditions Duties are performed primarily outdoors in the elements. Position Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills in English
  • A minimum of 2 year supervisory experience is required;
  • A degree in equine related field is an asset but is not required
  • A minimum of 5 years riding experience is required as well as experience with riding instruction/lessons, roping and horsemanship
  • Must be able to use motorized outdoor maintenance equipment (chain saw, weed eaters, golf cars, etc.) and have a current drivers license
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
  • A motor vehicle and criminal records check are required for this position
  • Yearly CPR and First Aid certification is required
