The Transportation Market of Gresham Smith is actively seeking an experienced and talented Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) Leader to expand our current portfolio of services and clients and lead significant growth of the practice. This individual will be expected to partner with our state leadership team and transportation market leadership to develop and lead a successful CE&I service line. Responsibilities:

The Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection Leader will be responsible for the overall development and execution of Gresham Smith’s CE&I services business plans for growth, recruiting, staff development, profitability and project performance. This role will lead transportation strategic planning such as: determining capabilities needed in the market; investment decisions on new hires and developmental training; and leading way to win pursuit strategies and teaming opportunities. This position is anticipated to start with a focus on Georgia but not be limited to assisting in leadership and activities across our transportation geography. This position will report to the Georgia State Transportation Leader. They will be expected to coordinate with state management, technical service leads, market leadership, other state leaders, and other Georgia Departments.

In this role, we will expect you to:

  • generate business opportunities with existing and prospective clients
  • build and maintain existing client relationships and develop new business
  • implement and execute Gresham Smith’s CE&I business plan
  • lead business development responsibilities, including proposal content coordination
  • travel locally and regionally
  • perform other duties as assigned

The selected could also function as an advisor on both public and private projects regionally in addition to their business development responsibilities; and assist with strategic planning, marketing proposals, and interviews. They will also work cooperatively with market leadership and be responsible for achieving defined group goals for sales, cost, profit, project schedules, and quality.

This position will need to be based out of one of Gresham Smith’s Alpharetta or Midtown Atlanta locations.

Job Requirements:

  • 15+ years of experience, including 5 years in Georgia (preferred), in engineering management related to the transportation industry (e.g., roadway/highway, bridge/structures, rail/transit, maritime, aviation) is required.
  • BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required.
  • Business development experience in the transportation industry; this must include a strong track record in the Georgia marketplace
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing to travel on a routine basis; this travel will include both local field and office sites
  • A demonstrated track record of strong leadership skills and the ability to generate new business opportunities with transportation clientele in Georgia (assisting in surrounding states a plus)
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have critical thinking skills along with the ability to plan and conceptualize
