Network Engineer

General Description and Classification Standards

Plans and coordinates all aspects of internal IT Telecom projects from initiation to delivery. This is a fully seasoned professional level (Senior) capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of profession. This level would be attainable by multiple incumbents in a work group (not necessarily all) but would not be an automatic promotional level.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Oversees projects which typically involve network, server, or software implementation and upgrades. Coordinates work performed by IT staff and internal customers/partners by defining project requirements, performing feasibility and needs (impact) assessments. Develops detailed project plans and manages all implementation processes including resource allocation, progress tracking, monitoring change control constraints, testing, documentation, training, and on-time delivery within budget constraints. Manages projects which vary in size and complexity.

Depending on organizational structure, may work independently with responsibility for assigned program.

Leadership Provided

Routinely provides training and/or project leadership to less experienced professionals or support staff. May supervise clerical or support staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Extensive knowledge of concepts, processes and tools of the telecommunications profession. Knowledge of relationship of professional disciple among related organizations and functions. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Bachelors

degree in computer science, engineering, business systems or an appropriate discipline (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis). 5 years’ of specific professional experience. Must have some project management or leadership experience.

Preferred Education & Experience Masters degree in computer science or a closely related area (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the masters degree on an exception basis) with 5-8 years’ of computer systems network experience.
