Here’s how this role performs at Shepherd:

The OT is responsible for treating each patient (adolescent, adult, and geriatric) assigned, working with the OTA to determine short-term and long-term goals in conjunction with the patient and other Shepherd Center team members, and developing and implementing a comprehensive treatment program to meet these goals. In this hands-on position, the OT has the opportunity to greatly improve the patient experience through rehabilitation services. This collaborative role engages problem solving skills in order to facilitate patient recovery.

The OT provides therapy care to patients. Job Functions:

  • Uses evaluation findings to determine appropriate discharge planning needs.
  • Develops and implements treatment program to further patient’s funtional skills, which is then periodically reassessed and adapted.
  • Plans and delivers effective Patient and Family Training to ensure proper patient care.
  • Completes administrative tasks including medical documentation as necessary.
  • Schedules patients for specialty clinics and programs where appropriate.
  • Effectively participates in intra-departmental staff meetings, and intra-departmental discipline/porgram committee assignments.
  • Develops intervention plans to assist clients in the completion of tasks related to life roles, such as developing skills, habits, and routines for work or school, obtaining or preparing meals for self or others, maintaining home or apartment and participating in healthy leisure occupations.
