Carrier Sales Representative
Summary/Objective
The Carrier Sales position is responsible for booking carriers to cover loads for GTO 2000 Inc’s customers. This includes negotiating rates to provide maximum profit and still ensuring quality of service to GTO’s customers. CS Level III position requires growing the level of core carrier’s relations to establish network that can be used on contracted lanes and spot market freight to GTO’s advantage. This position is also responsible for teaching and mentoring Level I & II team members to promote growth and increased profitability for GTO.

1. Properly qualify carrier to service loads without management direction

2. Aggressively and efficiently going after subject loads

3. Be able to handle any issues that may arise throughout the load and resolve them in a professional manner IE. comcheck issues, shipper, or receiver delays, repower loads if current carrier falls off, breakdown etc.

4. Participate in scheduling for regular workday and after hours to ensure entire team can service lanes properly without management direction. IE. Coming in early or working late, scheduling lunches to ensure coverage

5. Participate in on-call dispatch on nights and weekends per on-call schedule. Jump in after hours without management direction to assist any GTO team member in any division to ensure GTO as company is providing the best possible service for our customers -IE if carrier falls off, high

6. Working with Customer Sales on history and current trend to establish spot market rates

7. Developing deeper relationships with core carriers to establish a base for contract lane coverage year-round and coverage of those hard to cover lanes

8. Participate and organize team schedule for regular workday and after hours to ensure entire team can service lanes properly without management direction. IE. Coming in early or working late, scheduling lunches to ensure coverage

9. Be able to handle any issues that may arise throughout the load and resolve them in a professional manner and jump in to assist Level I team members with this when necessary. IE. Comcheck issues, shipper, or receiver delays, repower loads if current carrier falls off, breakdown etc.

10. Use negotiating skills to step in when problems occur on current loads

11. Cover bounty loads

12. Establish a work ethic that is example for CS Level I & II

13. Keep track of trends with carriers and lanes to be able feed-back to management to be used in bid process

Back-up Functions

1. Issue comcheck (fuel/lumper/late fee/pallet) if needed

2. Dispatch trucks

3. Perform check calls

4. Ensure times and all other necessary information the driver is reporting meet load requirements and is in call-ins

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 8a.m.-5p.m. 40 hours per week and may require longer hours and occasional weekend work.

Travel

There may be some travel expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years carrier sales experience
