Senior Roadway Inspector

Atlanta, GA

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC (ICE) is actively seeking a Senior Roadway Inspector to join our team in Georgia to support various transportation projects with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Qualified candidates must have drainage, erosion control and earthwork experience. Once qualified candidates have been identified, you will be contacted by the recruiting team for next steps. Position Summary

The inspector will monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance/specifications for roadway construction of moderate to considerable complexity. In addition to inspection responsibilities, the Senior Roadway Inspector may be required to also provide inspection/project management, under the direction of an Area Construction Engineer.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide daily observation of construction activities and document activities on required reports/forms
  • Review application materials including asphalt, concrete and earthwork for acceptable materials and mix
  • Ensure that materials meet project specifications
  • Inspect roadway and structures for conformance to plans and specifications
  • Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts and structural operations such as foundation excavation
  • Verifies lines, grades, dimensions and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment
  • Monitor and inspect traffic control and erosion control devices
  • Perform accurate calculations and computations
  • Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements of the project specifications
  • Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications
  • Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor

Qualifications

  • HS diploma required or equivalent required; Associate degree in an engineering field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in general roadway inspection
  • Must have drainage, erosion control and earthwork experience
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Level 1A GSWCC Certification
  • Certification as a Georgia WECS is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Above average math and problem-solving skills are required
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer (Surface Pro will be issued)
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • Must be a US Citizen or Legal Resident with a current driver’s license with a good 3-year driving record (company truck will be provided)

Physical Demands

  • This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50-70 pounds on an infrequent basis
  • Hand and eye coordination adequate for computer data entry, operate surveying equipment, calculator and concrete testing equipment
  • Ability to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature
  • Ability visual examine construction materials and finished structures

Expected Hours of Work

  • This position will be a full-time position
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday with some weekend work as needed
