Responsible for identifying, leading and facilitating Revenue Cycle Operational Effectiveness and performance improvement initiatives in collaboration with operations without direct supervisory responsibility over team members. Responsible for scoping projects, developing project plans and assisting with implementing solutions. This also includes, initiating, executing and managing Revenue Cycle Operational Effectiveness initiatives, research, quality assurance activities and related projects. Additionally, this role will serve as the leads for development of training content to support the operational improvements identified.

As an “internal consultant” and “knowledge expert” related to Revenue Cycle, the work will span the course of operational and financial areas and will be determined based on use of Lean methodology for areas in need of process improvement, improved results, project management and/or oversight such as development of processes, work flow analysis, strategic planning and business plan development as well as other areas requiring attention.

He/she leads operational research and root-cause investigations based on stakeholder requests; collaborates with operational stakeholders in the development and design of operational changes that will create revenue opportunities and drive best in class patient experiences; and ensures reliability, sustainability, spread and use of industry best practices and benchmarks.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Three (3) years of progressively responsible project management or process improvement experience.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
None.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree preferred.

Proven understanding of revenue cycle operations and technology.

Certification in Lean, Six Sigma or similar improvement methodologies strongly preferred.

Superior written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present ideas in a clear and

compelling manner to both executive and staff level audiences.

Previous experience using or implementing Epic is desired.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Leads process improvement research that will eliminate inefficiencies and streamline processes.

2. Translates data into meaningful information and clearly communicates critical information to leadership and other stakeholders to improve performance and decision-making.

3. Leads the design, implementation and evaluation of improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and/or patient experience while collaborating with other Revenue Cycle teams.

4. Performs an overall operational assessment of current processes to determine new processes required and/or areas requiring changes in current processes reflecting best practices. Collaborates with Revenue Cycle leaders and teams to develop goals and deliverables of the identified initiatives.

a. Reviews current operational processes to ensure efficient and effective operations.

b. Identifies new operational processes which need to be implemented.

c. Identifies current operational processes which may need to be revised and/or changed.

d. Defines and prioritizes initiatives based on need within the department.

e. Determines time frame and costs for initiatives.

5. Develops work plans associated with identified initiatives.

a. Researches and documents current work flow/processes of initiatives.

b. Determines initiative outcomes.

c. Identifies all key stakeholders involved in initiatives.

d. Develops detailed work plans which will achieve the initiative outcomes.

6. Oversees or performs project management and work functions supporting the identified initiatives through project scope, key timelines and effective transitions.

7. Assists in developing and implementing the Revenue Cycle Strategic Business Plan.

8. Provides expert knowledge on current trends in Revenue Cycle.

9. Leverages complex decision support/data systems to improve operational and quality related metrics to measure progress and sustainability of improvement efforts/initiatives.

10. Keeps current on, tracks, and communicates industry trends, technology, competitor/vendor practices, and legislation impacting Revenue Cycle or the business units it supports/feeds

11. Performs other assignments as requested.

12. Develops briefing and reports, synthesizing information and insights to help inform constituencies on the status of key projects and initiatives.

13. Provides updates to appropriate stakeholders on initiative progress.

14. Ensures deliverables are within established internal evaluation framework to approach continuous improvement projects.

15. Collaborates with stakeholders to define business cases, identify process and system impacts/changes, and define resource needs.

16. Presents findings and recommendations in appropriate ways for all levels of stakeholders – senior leaders and front-line staff.

17. Provides operational consultation on business case development.

18. Supports technology and operational SOPs development, deployment and storage. Additionally, develops educational material, guides, training videos, courses, and delivery systems.

19. Leads others by demonstrating initiative in identifying alternative solutions to issues in projects or departments which are complex and require an understanding of how the outcome will affect multiple areas/departments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of complex statistics, data analysis, workflow charting and other analysis techniques
