Job Title: Surgical Coordinator

General Duties:

Coordinates and schedules surgical appointments for patients in an efficient and timely manner. Conducts pre-operative appointments for patients to sign paperwork, answer patient questions, discuss the surgical procedure, what to expect after surgery, and inform patients regarding insurance coverage and patient responsibility. Maintains an efficient schedule for surgeons. Follows up with patients to ensure completion of surgical care.

Surgical Coordinator Manager

Typical Physical Demands: Requires frequent standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Requires some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity necessary for the operation of basic office equipment. Requires visual acuity and hearing in normal range. Requires the ability to work efficiently under high stress with patients who can be irritable or confused.

Typical Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an office environment. Involves frequent telephone contact with patients and other medical staff. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.

Examples of General Duties:

  • Schedules, coordinates, and reschedules patient’s surgical appointments. Relays necessary
  • messages to staff
  • Greets patients in a prompt, pleasant and helpful manner
  • Verifies necessary information and records in EMR
  • Answers telephone, screen calls, take messages and provides information
  • Maintains and updates current information on physicians surgery schedules
  • Reviews drop schedules with patients
  • Answer questions regarding patient surgical appointments, pre-operative care, and post-operative care
  • Assembles patient charts and update patient profiles
  • Assist with preparation of agendas, materials, and meetings
  • Performs work related task as required
  • Review surgical insurance benefits with patients
  • Reviews all paperwork for patient and obtains patient signatures
  • Enters patient health data into EMR
  • Scan appropriate paperwork into patient EMR
  • Reviews schedules to ensure an efficient surgery day
  • Follows up with patients to ensure completion of surgical care
