POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Director of Tax would directly support the Senior Vice President of Tax with all matters in managing the tax department, with a primary focus on the preparation of the income tax provision for financial reporting purposes, tax forecasting and tax planning. Oversight of income tax compliance and indirect taxes will also be required, but both functions have been outsourced to third party providers.

The Senior Director of Tax would also be expected to develop and implement new processes to support the efficient preparation of the tax provision, and maintain effective controls for Sarbanes Oxley reporting purposes.

As part of this role, the Senior Director of Tax would manage multiple individuals supporting within the tax team at Change Healthcare and has a clear path to become the Head of Tax.

The candidate would be required to develop relationships with leaders from various business units and functions within Change Healthcare in order to understand both current and proposed activities to ensure they are accurately reporting the tax effects of business initiatives in the financial statements.

The candidate should be self motivated and personable with an ability to easily develop and maintain relationships both within the organization and with outside advisors. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Tax.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs preparation of tax provision for financial statement reporting purposes.
  • Work closely with tax planning team to develop and implement tax savings and value creations opportunities
  • Prepare research and computational analysis of tax reporting around both domestic, state and international tax planning initiatives.
  • Work closely with tax compliance team to ensure efficient transition from financial statement reporting to tax return preparation.
  • Analyze, document and communicate issues around valuation allowances, FIN48 reserves, permanent reinvestment for APB23 purposes, and other tax provision matters.
  • Work with FP&A to help develop forecasts of future effective tax rates.
  • Work with finance team to understand book reporting of business initiatives and ensure appropriate tax treatment.
  • Support M&A team to ensure appropriate structure of various acquisitions, divestitures and restructuring.
  • Mentors and leads tax department members and teams with other department leaders to maximize employee engagement and provide opportunities for growth.
  • Trains and Develops tax department members through coaching and supervision

JOB Qualifications

  • Successful track record of working in a dynamic, fast-paced and changing environment that is results oriented and collaborative.
  • Willingness to “roll up the sleeves” to manage priorities.
  • Leadership/management experience.
  • Conversant in complex legal, tax, accounting and operating structures.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate complex tax issues to executives and other departments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Project management skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
  • Strong taxation experience – compliance, research, planning, forecasting, and accounting.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. state and local taxation and non-U.S. tax concepts.
  • Minimum of 12 years of corporate tax or public accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or similar major (advanced degree preferred) or JD/LLM.
